Things We're Loving Lately: September Edition

Hi, Reader!

Welcome to September's edition of Things We're Loving Lately! But, before we dive in I wanted to give you a little update after last week's newsletter. So many of you kindly responded to my request for naming ideas for our ever-growing volunteer pumpkin- thank you! Here are a few highlights....

  • Jeanne (from Australia!) came up with 'Polly the Pumpkin'
  • Rodney hilariously shared 'AC-PB, similar to ACDC, but with flavor' 😂
  • Eva (from Germany!) suggested Soleidad, which apparently means 'a ray of sunshine shining through a cloud after the rain'

Aren't they great!? How does one choose?!

Well, I'm happy to say pumpkin baby #2 appeared the following day...so I think we'll just go in the order they were received. That makes pumpkin #1 'Polly' and.....

And with that, let’s get to the reason you're really here. Below you'll find alllll the Things We're Loving Lately. We hope you find a new favorite or two!

Some of the links below are affiliate links, which means we may earn a small commission (at no extra cost to you). But please know, we only share things we genuinely love. Thank you for supporting The Café!

P.S. Our links now work in Canada and many European countries! 🙌🏼

Chris' Things

Simple Little Workhorses

Some of my most-used kitchen tools are also the simplest, and these are a perfect example! They’re super sharp, handy for all sorts of small kitchen tasks and so reasonably priced that I keep six on hand. Most days, I’ve used every single one!

While I would never put my good knives in the dishwasher, these little workhorses go in and out all the time and have stayed wonderfully sharp. Nothing fancy, just something I reach for again and again!

A New Discovery

I’ve always used a round-wheel pizza cutter, but watching Cait use this made me wonder where I’ve been all these years! I was amazed at how quickly and easily she sliced a large pizza with just a few rocking motions.
It’s super sharp, comes with a protective blade cover for storage and has hundreds of five-star reviews. After seeing it in action, I can understand why!

My Advice? Buy More Than One!

I’m a little fussy about what I sleep in. Maybe I get a little wild in the night 😂 I’m not sure, but I tend to get tangled up in a gown or too hot in pajamas! These have been such a happy find. They’re so comfortable, wash beautifully and come out wrinkle-free. With so many lovely colors to choose from, the hardest part might be picking just one which is why I have a couple!

Scott's Things

A Musical Treasure

This excellent resource spans hundreds of years, yet contains many newer praise and worship hymns as well. Compiled by Keith and Kristin Getty from the Sing! Conference family of musicians, it's a spiral bound version and is also available for accompanists.

Blast From the Past

If you have slides or negatives like most of us over 60, you’ll love this device. It allows you to see your long lost slides and digitize them to an SD card for digital storage and use.

And the best part? Slides and negatives often have much less fading than old printed photos, so you might be surprised by how good those memories still look!

A Favorite Morning Upgrade

If you love the taste of vanilla in your morning coffee, this is the one to buy!

Insider Information

I remember years ago, when Chris and Scott would travel to see Cait in London, they always brought back boxes upon boxes of this stuff. At the time, it was such a treat because it was really hard to find in the U.S. and super expensive. Well, now you can order a big bucket on Amazon for a really great price. It’s an everyday luxury that’s wonderful on so many things, but I love it most of all sprinkled on top of chocolate chip cookies!

Dishwasher Warriors

These have been a recent purchase and are perfect for measuring small amounts of liquids like soy sauce, vinegar or oils. I put them in the dishwasher and so far the numbers have stayed put. Winning!

A Post-Summer Rescue

After a summer full of swimming in pools and the ocean, my daughter's hair felt like straw....til I found this. After a little at-home spa day, her hair was instantly better! Shiny, smooth and silky. I'll use it every year!

Is it Fall Yet!?

Not sure about you but it is still VERY much summer here in Asheville (and I for one am NOT happy about it!). I keep finding myself reaching for fall colors/items only to realize they are too heavy. These pants have been a fun and seasonally appropriate solution. They're lightweight but the color says fall 👌🏼

An Old Friend

This is not a new discovery- in fact, it's been part of my hair routine for over a decade now! I've tried ALL the fancy (aka expensive!) versions and I just keep coming back to this one.

Annie's Things

Those Tangles Don't Stand a Chance

A couple years ago I went in search of the ultimate wet-hair detangling solution and after trying this out, I was hooked. It's been with me through long hair, short hair, bleached hair, post-surfing hair, post-gameday hair and everything in between. Half this time I don’t even use detangler because this is truly magical.

Whether you have thick, easily knotted hair or fragile, prone to breakage hair, I can't recommend it enough!

Everyone Needs One

My love for these is a leftover from a childhood growing up in England, and I honestly pity anyone who does not know the joy of what is essentially a portable, heated, weighted pillow. From sore backs, to cold feet, cramping stomachs, and whatever else needs soothing, they're truly a girl's best friend.

The Ultimate Brain Dump

If, like me, you need to get all your thoughts written down in one place in order to think properly, this is for you. It sticks to any wall and overlaps easily to create a bigger writing surface if needed. It single-handedly got me through college exam season so I would consider it very much tried-and-true.

Hope you enjoyed perusing all the Things The Café team is Lovely Lately!

With love,

Cait 🤍

Hi, Reader! Fair warning: I’m about to take you down a little rabbit hole. But I promise it’s a good one....and it ends with pumpkin bread, so stay with me 😋 About six weeks ago, we noticed a vine growing in between our air conditioning units, which sit right next to a patio. It's leaves looked familiar, almost like squash, but both it's origin and identity were total mysteries to me. Weeks went by. The vine kept producing flowers, but nothing else happened. Was it a weed after all? That's...

Our Best Bites A peek into our kitchen...the recipes our team makes again and again! Hi, Reader! Today I'd like to introduce you to the newest member of The Café team. Meet Trish! Trish (aka "Aunt Trish'" to my kids) joined our team earlier this year, and between status as a bibliophile, her degree in English and an...

a batch of easy sheet pan fajitas complete with lime wedges and dipping sauces

Hi, Reader! I'm curious, is it just the US that starts going crazy about anything pumpkin around this time of year? Perhaps our international readers could chime in on this!? I'll be the first to admit, it does feel a little over the top. But in all honesty....I kind of love it 🙃 Not necessarily for the flavor itself, but for what it represents. It feels like a built-in reminder of the turning of seasons and that life keeps moving forward. My family lived in the UK for many years, but I still...
